Preview: Men's Basketball Open Season With Hampshire College
Vermont Tech men's basketball team opens their season on Tuesday, November 3 at 8 p.m. against the Black Sheep from Hampshire College. The Knights will look to continue the success against the Sheep as they defeated the team in both outings last year.
The Knights are coming off an 11-18 season, and a 7-6 YSCC record. The team lost a tight battle, to end last season, with Southern Maine in the Yankee Tournament semifinals 61-57.
Head Coach Alex Tyrrell has been very pleased with the teams progression this preseason.
"The guys have worked very hard on the court, in conditioning, and in the weight room to improve their individual games this fall. They are an unbelievable coachable group which is all you can ask for, and I think this will allow us to have great improvements throughout season. I'm very excited for us to take the court for the first time in front of the Knights faithful," said Coach Tyrrell.
The men have had three scrimmages thus far, facing the alumni, while also traveling to Johnson State College and New England College.
"Each time we have stepped onto the floor we have made considerable improvements to our execution and understanding of how to be successful college basketball players," added Coach Tyrrell. "Johnson State and New England College were both very athletic and talented teams so it was a good measuring stick for our guys to face them."
Entry to the athletic contests is free for all. To celebrate opening night there will also be free popcorn and shooting contest at half time of the game.
