VTSU RANDOLPH TRACK AND FIELD OPENS SEASON AT AIC
Springfield, MA: VTSU Randolph hit the track at the Yellow Jacket Open with a small but determined group, using the meet as an opportunity to get early-season reps and build momentum across a wide range of events.
On the women's side, the team showed a lot of versatility. Rubiana Osorio Ventura competed in three sprint events, turning in times of 15.54 in the 100 meters, 32.08 in the 200, and 1:12.36 in the 400. Taking on all three races in one meet is no small task, and she showed strong effort throughout the day. Savannah Perry was another athlete who covered a lot of ground, racing in both sprints and distance while also competing in the field. She posted times of 32.39 in the 200, 1:18.63 in the 400, and 6:18.12 in the 1500, in addition to a 6.83-meter throw in the shot put. Ashley Cannon-Harris added to the team's effort with a 38.54 finish in the 200 meters and a 5.52-meter mark in the shot put.
The men's team also showed range, with several athletes competing in multiple events. Porter Peloquin led the way on the track with a strong showing in the distance events, finishing 10th in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:53.78 and adding a 2:20.88 performance in the 800. Connor Mazzarella contributed across three events as well, running 26.35 in the 200, 58.92 in the 400, and 2:26.78 in the 800, highlighting the team's willingness to take on a busy schedule. Logan Winston Perry represented Randolph in the hurdles, competing in both the 110 and 400 hurdle races and gaining valuable experience in each.
In the field events, Gavin Clark-Viloa delivered a solid performance in the javelin with a throw of 42.66 meters, while also running 26.25 in the 200 meters earlier in the day. Braden Wright rounded out the throws group, competing in shot put, discus, and javelin, with marks of 8.19 meters, 23.92 meters, and 39.87 meters respectively.
While the results didn't include top finishes, the meet served as a strong step forward for VTSU Randolph. With athletes competing across multiple disciplines and taking on full event schedules, the Yellow Jacket Open provided valuable experience and a foundation to build on as the season continues.
