Men take best team finish to date at Cross Country Nationals
Syracue, NY - The Vermont Tech Cross Country team traveled to Syracuse, NY last Thursday for the USCAA National Championships. The race was held on the hilly Drumlins golf course owned and hosted by SUNY College of Environmental Science. The weather was rain and snow making for a slippery race course.
On the Women's side Rebecca Broadbent fought hard, running her first mile in 6 minutes and staying in the top 5 for the majority of the race. The top 8 runners changed places regularly as the race went on fighting each other and the weather. At the end of the 6K race Rebecca finished 7th place, earning her All American status. This is a great feat for a freshman runner. Her time was 24:23 which is a personal best and a Vermont Tech 6K record. At the end of her first season at Vermont Tech Rebecca has broken the school records in the 5K 3 times and the 6K twice. She won Yankee Small College Conference championships, making Athlete of the year and Made the All American team for the USCAA, a feat most runners never accomplish. On the Men's side Vermont Tech captured 17th place out of the 28 colleges represented, which is a great improvement over years past. Collin Johnson led the Knights with an 8K finish time of 32:35 ( 84th ) followed by Avery Gaudette ( 87th) James Bridges ( 96th) Jon Henault ( 107th ) and Team Captain Nick Martiros (114th ). Special recognition to Nick Martiros , who completed his 4th year as part of the running Knights and as team Captain. Thank you for your service Nick and great spirit you brought to our team.
