Lady Knights Fall to Seawolves in YSCC Softball Semi-finals
SMCC takes 2012 softball championship crown
Concord, NH. – The Southern Maine Community College softball team defended their Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) crown by winning their third straight YSCC championship.
The Seawolves started the day with a 14-2 victory over Vermont Technical College in the 1:00PM semi-final matchup. Freshman pitcher Emily Bard (Fort Kent, ME) got the win throwing all seven innings. Senior Ashley Pulk (Litchfield, ME) went 4-4 with 2 doubles, 2 singles and 2 RBIs. That performance combined with her defensive efforts in the championship game earned Pulk the tournament's Most Valuable Player Award.
With the win over Vermont Tech, the Seawolves advanced to the championship game to take on conference rival Central Maine Community College. Freshman Charlotte Lewis (Chatham, ME) took over pitching duties for the championship. Lewis threw seven strong innings, tallying 7 strikeouts to take the win. The Seawolves captured the crown with a 5-3 victory over the Mustangs.
Sophomore Jamie Moody (Cumberland, ME) recorded 4 hits and 4 RBIs over the course of the tournament. Her performance at the plate earned her the Offensive Player of the Tournament Award.
The semi-final win marked the 100th career victory for SMCC Head Coach John Moody. This is Moody's sixth year at the helm of the SMCC softball program. Including the championship victory, Coach Moody has an overall record of 101-72.
