Men's Soccer goes down in close game vs Paul Smith's College

Randolph Center, VT - The Vermont Tech men's soccer team fought a tough battle in their game this weekend vs Paul Smith's College.  The match was evenly played for much of the game, with posession even, and both teams peppering shots throughout the game.

Vermont Tech managed 15 shots to Paul Smith's 14, but had a lower percentage of shots on goal, just 40% to Paul Smith's 70%.  Paul Smith's came out quickly and agressively, getting off 4 shots in the first 14 minutes of the game. Knights goalkeeper Thomas Ferguson played the majority of the game, coming out for just a few minutes at the end of the first half after getting kicked in the chest on a loose ball in the box. Ferguson had 9 saves on the day.

The Knigts offense pressured often and quickly but wasn't able to break through to the back of the net. Towards the end of the first half, the Knights had a scramble in front of the net, with a final shot by Sophomore Ryan Bellandese that was saved point blank by Paul Smith's keeper DJ Clement.

The Knights never gave up, playing with intense pressure in the second half, when they have even more chances on goal.  Knights coach indicated after the game "This group just never let up, They really wanted that goal, and were doing everything they could to make it happen. I am proud of thier work ethic right up until the final horn."

The Knights take on UMaine Machias this Saturday at home at 4pm.
