Lady Knights End Season with Loss to SUNY Canton
Senesac finishes career with 15 save effort
On another sloppy and incredibly muddy field, as has been the theme for the past few games, the Vermont Tech Lady Knights fought hard but the Roos of SUNY Canton ended their season by a final of 5-0.
The loss brings to a conclusion a difficult season that saw the Knights compile an uncharateristic losing record. The final tally was 3-12, 2-7 with only one home victory to their credit. This is Coach Norton-Magnan's first losing season as the Head Coach of Women's Soccer at Vermont Tech. She and the team is much more accostomed at this point in the season to preparing for YSCC Tournament play. This year the team did not qualify for the tournament, so they will rest up and then begin to contemplate what they can do to make next year more successful.
Senior Goal tender Abbie Senesac (Williston, VT) was stellar in goal, and through much of the first half made save after save to keep the score knotted at 0. Eventually the shots were simply too numerous, and a few trickled into the net. The first half ended with SUNY up 2-0. The Roos then simply outlasted the Knights, using precision passes to keep the home team moving on defense across the field until the visitors could get off a good shot. Senesac continued her excellent effort during the second half, ending the game with 15 saves. For the Roos, Junior Jackie Sedlacek (Endicott, NY) finished with a hat trick, while Junior Bailey Allen (DeKalb Junction, NY) add the other two to make up the 5 goals.
The problem for the home team, as has been the case for much of the year, was offense as the Knights could muster only a single shot on goal. Too much of the play was in the offensive end of Vermont Tech, and this will be something Coach Norton-Magnan, as well as the girls, will have to consider going into next year. In addition, Senesac at goal keeper will be a difficult person to replace, but both an improved offense and a saavy keeper are needed for the Knights to return to the YSCC playoffs next fall.
While Vermont Tech's season is now complete, the Roos next play at home versus Clarkson University on Wednesday 10/19.
