Men's soccer on the road
Presque Isle 10/9
Led by Captains Sam Rosen and Darren Rivard, the VTC Men’s Soccer Team found themselves in over their heads with a long road trip through northern and eastern Maine last weekend, OCt 9 & 19, falling 5-1 to the University of Maine/Presque Isle. Presque Isle displayed an organized defense and attack with several skill full players able to break down the VTC defense and get on the board early in the game. Starting the game with the heavy wind against them, VTC was unable to move the ball forward successfully. When the second half began VTC had a better time of it, with the wind at their back. Already down 2-0 at half, the Green Knights were unable to recover. Mid-way through the second half Sam Rosen was able to sneak a long free kick, going with the wind, just under the cross bar, for the Knights only goal of the game.
Machias 10/10
VTC faced the University of Maine/Machias the following day. Coming in with confidence that this team could be beaten, the Green Knights were disappointed with their performance and left the large state of Maine with another loss.
Darren Rivard was excellent in goal while Freshmen Ramsey Allen and Senior Captain Sam Rosen kept Machias under control most of the game. Freshman Hannes Fischer-Byrne scored the Green Knights only goal on a break away in the second half. The team played well for most of the game except for several mental mistakes against the run of play that Machias was able to capitalize on. Coach Jamie Hutchins was quoted “I’m disappointed for the guys, they work so hard and play really well for long stretches during these games, and then we have these breakdowns with our defensive discipline and give up goals. They deserve better, but they are learing from the mistakes.”
Machias 10/14
VTC Men’s Soccer finished their mid-season tough patch during October vacation last week with another heart breaking loss to the University of Maine/Machias. While scoring the first goal and dominating the first half of play, the Green Knights were feeling like they could get the win if they could continue the high pressure and quality of play displayed in the first half. Hannes Fischer-Byrne scored a beautiful goal at the 23 minute mark, when he lofted a volley over the outstretched arms of the Machias goalie.
