VTC Gets Two Commits From the Sunshine State
Randolph Center, VT: Coach Jamal Hughes announced Friday that Steven Hernandez and David Monell, both from Miami, Florida, have signed their letter of intent to attend Vermont Tech in the fall.
Steven, a 5'11 guard will be a freshman this fall. He attended Keys Gate High School in Miami, Fl where he averaged 20ppg, 5apg and 8rpg his senior season. He finished his career with 1600+ career points.
"This is a great signing for Vermont Tech. To be able to grab a talent like this from the Sunshine State is huge." Hughes said. He's hungry and motivated. He's had a history of being overlooked and underestimated. He's a humble kid, who has 2 things in mind; that's a good education and winning.
Steven Hernandez: "I chose Vermont Tech because of the culture change and environment. Vermont Tech has a very high and successful graduating rate. I wanted to play under a young but experienced coach who I can help bring a championship to Vermont Tech."
David, a 6'2 guard will enter as a transfer. Monell averaged 15ppg at Vermilion Community College as a freshman.
"We got a steal with David." Hughes said. He's a strong guard who can really shoot the ball. He brings a ton of energy on offense and defense. I believe he will make an immediate on the program on the court with his aggression and hunger and off the court with his kindness. We are fortunate to have him.
David Monell: "Vermont Tech gave me a chance and opportunity to further my education. I believe coach Hughes will be great to play for and even better man to learn. He's been to where I want to get to in my career in athletics. It's starts with winning.
