Vermont Tech Loose Two In Maine
The Vermont Tech men's soccer team opened their 2016 season on the road in Maine where they faced Unity College and Southern Maine Community College over the Labor Day weekend. The Knight's played tough in both contest but came up on the losing end of both matches.
Their first contest was against Unity College (Unity, Maine). The Knight's played well for most of the match, but had two defensive breakdown that allowed Unity to score both their goals. Although the Knight's conceded early goals they were able to establish themselves in the 2nd half and created multiple opportunities to score. Twice the Knight's fired shots that were denied only by the crossbar and had many other opportunities that they just could not finish.
On Monday September 5th, 2016 the Knight's took on Southern Maine Community College (South Portland, Maine) and played well in the first half of the match but ran out of gas in the 2nd half conceding 4 unanswered goals and losing the contest 6-1. The Knight goal came from Freshman Hunter Grace who was able to redirect a corner kick into the goal at the back post, bringing the Knight's within one goal of Southern Maine CC. Southern Maine CC quickly countered and scored two goals in the next 5 minutes after Grace's goal and they didn't look back from there.
The Vermont Tech men's soccer team look to rebound from the weekend next week for their home opener on Thursday September 8th as they host the College of St. Joseph's (Rutland, VT) at 4:30pm.
