Knights win over Hampshire College
Vermont Tech 6, Hampshire 2
The Knights played with their two center sideline today with injuries but were still able to adjust and bring home a much needed victory over Conference rival Hampshire College. The Knight lacked early communication in the back line that had 2 players out of position because of injuries hindering the Knights back line.
A defensive break down lead to Hampshire to gaining and early 1-0 lead over the Knights. Jason Ahuja scored an unassisted goal as he beat two Knights defenders on the left side of the 18 yard box. Ahuja's shot went low near post beating Knights keeper Scott Durkee.
The Knights would score the next 5 goals, the first came on a PK from Phillip Hepburn (Milton, VT) after some neat ball control from Allan Wheeler cause a Hampshire defender to clip Wheeler down. A minute later Phillip Hepburn (Milton, VT) would return the favor when his cross found Allan Wheeler at the back post who nicely redirected the ball back across the goal finding the back corner.
Phillip Hepburn (Milton, VT) would find another goal right before half giving the Knights a 3-1 lead at half. The knight had recently giving up a 2 goal lead so making sure they started the 2nd half strong was important. The knight started the 2nd half with 2 quick goals in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half from Freshman Hunter Pockett and Ali Alazamanan (Najram, Saudi Arabia) giving themselves a 5-1 lead with 35 minutes left to play.
Freshman Pockett received a thru ball and calmly toe poked it under the charging Hampshire keeper Forrest Jackson for his first collegiate goal. Alazamanan was able to get in at the back post to collect the ball after it bounced off the back post after a shot from Phillip Hepburn was only denied by the post.
Hampshire's Ethan Haut was able to pull one goal back for Hampshire but it wasn't enough to break the Knights hold on the game. The Knights would score one more goal on a PK taken by Matthew Brien (Colchester, VT). The knight were awarded the PK after Phillip Hepburn beat the Hampshire back line and goalkeeper Jackson had no choice but to take Hepburn down by the ankles. Scott Durkee (Chelsea, VT) had 7 saves on 9 shots for the Knights.
The Knights improve to 4-3 in the YSCAA South Division and 4-9 overall. The Knight look to gain another victory Sunday Oct 9th, 2016 as they host Maine Presque Isle at 12:00pm.
