VTC Men’s Soccer Falls to a Strong UMPI Team
Green Knights unable to match play
Vermont Tech men's soccer battled valiantly against the University of Maine Presque-Isle today at the VTC home field ending up on the wrong end of a 2-0 result. UMPI has a strong program with many returning starters from last year and proved too organized for the VTC offense to break through.
Outstanding players for VTC were starting goalie Senior Alex Berteau (Milton, VT), Sophomore defender Ramsey Allen (Sheldon, VT), Junior defender Tyler Birchmore (Vergennes, VT), and Freshman outside defender John Errair (Springfield, VT). Also having another outstanding individual performance was Freshman Daniel Mujica (Caracas, Venezuela) with three shots on goal. Aaron Hutchins scored on a nice give and go in the VTC box at 28 minutes of the first half to put UMPI ahead. Kobe Askir scored the second goal for UMPI five minutes into the second half, and VTC struggled to consistently pressure the UMPI goal after that.
VTC Coach Hutchins was quoted at the end of the match, saying "UMPI is always a very organized, large and physical team. This year they were technically good as well. I feel like we were really out of gas from yesterday's overtime game against Johnson State. Credit to UMPI they were the better team today."
The loss drops the Green Knights to 0-2, 0-0 in the Yankee Conference, while that was the first game for UMPI who is now 1-0.
