Defending National Champs Overwhelm Knights
On an incredibly wet and rainy day the Vermont Tech Men's soccer team succumbed to the dominance of the defending USCAA champion University of Maine Fort Kent. The final tally was 10-0, which does not tell the entire story of how hard the Knights played, never giving up until the final horn.
Fort Kent came to a soggy field in Randolph Center, and showed exactly why they are the number 1 team in the USCAA. Despite the conditions with the turf coming up in chunks and the occasional downpour of rain the Bengals did what they came to do, earn a victory in a dominant fashion. The Knights, however, did not go down as easily as the score would suggest. THey held the game scoreless for the first ten minutes, and still remained within striking distance at the half with the score just 3-0.
In the second half the Knights kept running, kept fighting for every ball and never let up, but the defending champs kept coming in waves. The speed and skill of the Bengals was simply too much for VTC to handle. The Knight goalies, as Junior Zach Fortuna (Ludlow, VT) and Senior Alex Bertaeu (Milton, VT) split time in goal, faced 39 shots. That number that shows the power of the Bengal offense. Sophomore Ramsey Allen (Shledon, VT) led the Knights with 5 of their total 7 shots on goal.
Fort Kent is now 7-1 and next play on the road versus St. Joe's (VT) on Friday, September 30. The VTC men currently post a record of 3-7, and next play a friendly versus past players in the Alumni Weekend Game on Saturday, October 1 at 3pm.
